It’s all go at Greenwich Borough

There has certainly been a lot of comings and goings at Greenwich Borough over the last couple of weeks, or to be accurate more goings, as it seems that every few days it is announced that another key player has followed Gary Alexander out of the DGS Stadium doors.
It has been two weeks since Alexander and assistant John Mackie grew frustrated at the change in the financial situation at Borough and said their goodbyes. The following day Mark Phillips and Charlie MacDonald were released, a few days later Tom Beere moved on and now we have heard that Inspirational goalkeeper George Kamarusi has gone. To make that last one hurt even more Kamarusi had just been made vice-captain and he didn’t just leave, he left to follow Gary Alexander to Ashford. Ouch.
A problem that Greenwich Borough are experiencing is that most of this squad are loyal to their former boss. They joined the club because of him and now they may leave the club as he is no longer there. I would not be surprised to see more take the journey down the M20 to join him.
It is very frustrating for those of us that want to see Greenwich Borough do well, that want to see them promoted this year. Before all the ins and outs Greenwich were on a good run, a run that has seen them put themselves in a great position for a promotion charge. Fortunately all this change has not affected them yet and they have won the last two games but you will have to get concerned if any others leave. The team has some big players around the club, ones that they will certainly not want to leave like Pritchard, McKenzie, Barham. Especially Barham. The little forward is the top scorer in this division and will be a key player as this season goes down to the wire. Lets hope he is happy in Eltham and does not want to go anywhere else, especially further south.

If there was a positive side to this current situation it would be that at least with all these high earners off the wage bill they will meet the new budgets in place. It may also give new boss Paul Barnes the opportunity to bring some of his own players in and that is underway with him getting Ashford keeper Michael McEntegart to replace Big George. There is bound to be more as the squad is light.
Overall though I cannot deny how frustrating this regular jumping of ship is. It was all looking good at the start of the Year and now just two weeks later worry and doubt could creep in. There are some good teams in and around the play-offs, teams that are signing not releasing. The coming few weeks will be interesting. How many will leave? Which ones will leave? Where will they go? Will any new faces come in? When will the unbeaten run end?
It is certain that whilst the unbeaten run continues there are plenty of reasons to have hope and be cheerful and if the revolving door was to close now then there is another talent within the club to continue with this promotion push so I will try to keep positive and keep cheering the boys on as you never know, this could be the year that despite all odds Greenwich Borough surprise us all and get promoted.
