SE Dons star Ryan Palmer heads to Merstham

June 23rd 2019
Merstham Football Club have announced the capture of Ryan Palmer

Palmer, who plays on Sundays for YouTube stars SE Dons is an exciting attacking midfielder, recently of Hythe Town in the Bostik South East Division.

He now makes the move up to Step 3 to play for a side that made the Play-Off finals last year.

Ryan wasted no time in giving his thoughts on his arrival at Moatside:

“I really excited about joining Merstham and looking forward to working with Frank again and creating more history for the club.
I initially met Frank during a spell at Tooting & Mitcham a few years ago. I recently left Hythe Town who I have been with for the last two years. As soon as I saw the transition with Frank moving to Merstham as manager, it was something that interested me a lot. Knowing Frank and his style of play, along with my knowledge of Merstham Football Club, this confirmed where I wanted to play my football this season. Knowing and playing under Frank before also attracted me to the club, with the professionalism and ambition he demonstrates. I feel the club and manager represent what I stand for. I’m addicted to winning and my mentality and passion won’t ever change. I’m here to do business!!!!”

Frank has this to say about signing Palmer:

“Ryan is Mr positive – in terms of his character & attitude and the way he plays football. Like all talented, confident attackers, he likes to break lines and his first thoughts are to go forwards – which is a distinctive, offensive trait. When Ryan and I met, we spoke honestly about the challenge of step 3 and the Bostik Premier Division and Ryan respects that he is going to have to make this season his signature season and I’m pleased to have him on board. I think that the environment room we will create and the players we have on board will bring out the best in him. Not forgetting that at his best Ryan is a solid worker and that is a big asset. Lots of people with Ryan’s ability tend to get by on that alone but I want to make Ryan the hardest working version of himself.”

UPDATE October 2020 – After Merstham Ryan moved on to Burgess Hill Town, then Canterbury City before moving to SCEFL promotion hopefuls Chatham Town. After a succesful few months at the ‘Chats’ Palmer agreed to join Sittingbourne FC ahead of the 2020/21 season before then switching to Welling Town, a move that can be read about here
