A closer look at the Welling United new signings

During the fallout of the budget restructuring at Welling United on Thursday it emerged that the club had managed to clinch the signings of two new players. Here I will take a look at who they are and what they have done.

HARLEY WILLARD

Harley began his footballing life at Arsenal at the age of 9 and stayed until he was 15 when he signed for Southampton. He spent 4 years on the South Coast before being released and ending up at Maidstone United. Jay Saunders had picked him up at the start of this season and he managed to play a few pre-season games for them before being sent to Eastbourne on a one month loan during September. His spell at the club coincided with them having their best run of games in what has been a relatively disappointing season for them and he returned to the Gallagher Stadium having earned good reviews. Unfortunately he never managed to break in to the first team and Jamie Coyle was able to finally bring him to Park View Road after missing out on his man when trying to get him at the start of the season.
The 20 year old can play on either wing and also in the number 10 role and will be a very useful addition to the side. He is known for his pace and will be expected to replace Christian Nanetti in the side on Saturday for the game against the team he got to know well, Eastbourne Borough.

Anthony needs no introduction to Welling fans as he starred at the heart of the defence that won this League back in 2013. He made 44 appearances that season and earned himself a move to an Edgar Davids Barnet side. After a season there he moved on to Ebbsfleet then Maidstone before this season pairing up with Rickie Hayles at the heart of the Dulwich Hamlet defence. His loan capture for The Wings will give Coyle the opportunity to spend more time in the dugout safe in the knowledge that he has the right man playing in his position.
