Alexander and Ashford United part ways

Gary Alexander last night announced that he and his backroom team have parted ways with Ashford United

It appears that Alexander, John Mackie and Huseyin Torgut were told the news that their services were being terminated via phone message on Saturday night.

A statement on the Ashford United Website on Sunday Morning confirmed the news;

Ashford United manager Gary Alexander has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect, the club can confirm with the search for a new manager now underway.

Assistant Manager John Mackie and physio Huseyin Torgut will also leave their positions with immediate effect.

Commenting on the departures, Chairman Derek Pestridge and the Board of Directors said: “This decision has been made in the best interests of the club. We would like to thank Gary, John and Hus for their efforts this season.

“The club now invites any interested applicants to get in touch. We will be making no further comment until we reach a decision on Gary’s replacement.”

It comes on the back of 3 wins in a row for Ashford United, against East Grinstead, Greenwich Borough and this weekend Herne Bay as they make a move back up the table. They are currently in 7th place ahead of a visit to Phoenix Sports next Saturday.

Many Ashford fans are reacting unhappily to the news on Social Media especially with the timing of the decision and the way it was carried out.

The trio worked together at Greenwich Borough last season before leaving and ending up at Ashford as a Management team for this campaign.

More news as we get it on what seems to be a crazy decision by a club that were heading quickly towards the top few places in the table.
