Ashton Town name new Manager

Ashton Town have named Glynn Hurst as their new manager.

The former Chesterfield and Notts County striker takes over after leaving his role as Marine reserve manager.

His new team were 6th in the NWCFL First Division North prior to the season being halted. Former manager Lee Bignell will be remaining with the club as Hurst’s assistant.

Hurst’s assistant from Marine reserves, Neil Hanson, will be head of football.

Town chairman Mark Hayes said: “I am thoroughly delighted to bring in Glynn, but it was equally important for Lee to be part of our plans, too. Lee has been key to our progression over the last three years.

“We of course wish (outgoing staff, who stepped down due to personal commitments) Karl and Chris the bestest of wishes going forward. Glynn is someone I have watched and followed as a player to now, as an extremely highly-rated and respected young manager. I would also like to thank Marine for their co-operation with the appointment.”

Hurst commented: “We are delighted to be given this opportunity and we are fortunate to inherit a squad that has set the benchmark for the future.”
