Balham to groundshare at AFC Croydon

BALHAM have secured a groundshare deal to play their home games at AFC Croydon Athletic’s Mayfield Stadium for the next two seasons.

The Combined Counites League Premier Division side have announced their departure from The Wibbandune Sports Ground, the home of Colliers Wood United and will now be playing their home games in Thornton Heath at a club they greatly admire.

“Everyone at Balham FC is very excited about the new two-year groundshare agreement signed with AFC Croydon Athletic,” said Balham chairman Greg Cruttwell.

“We look forward to our first-team and youth team playing at The Mayfield Stadium once the new season starts.

“We’d like to thank Colliers Wood United for being excellent landlords at The Wibbandune.

“We look forward to forging a close working relationship with everyone at AFC Croydon Athletic, a club we greatly admire.

“We also hope that we’ll attract good support at the ground, which is easier for those from Balham to get to.”

Balham secretary Jennie Molyneux added: “It will be the dream to one day be able to walk to our home matches, have the full support of the local community we serve at our first-team home matches but we hope this move will attract more of our home games to matches to join me in supporting the mighty Balham.”

Balham will also be using some of the outside pitches for their youth and junior matches and will be looking for more volunteers on matchdays to help run things behind the scenes at their first-team games in the Combined Counties League top-flight.

Balham were sitting in thirteenth-place in the table at the time of the coronavirus outbreak, which led to The Football Association declaring the 2019-20 campaign null and void.
