Buxton boss praises Chairman Hopkins
Buxton boss Gary Hayward has heaped the praise on their chairman Dave Hopkins.
Hopkins has piled his money into the Bucks in recent months and shown his support for the community during the recent troubled times.
It leaves the Silverlands side in a far healthier situation than rival teams as they plot a climb up the table.
“I think it is all a credit to our chairman Dave Hopkins,” said Hayward. “He has been supporting the football club and also buying PPE masks for the NHS.
“He has done other things to help the community and you can’t fault the chap.
“We are looking to start a development side next year and we will also have a couple of good academy teams, which will be good.
“We have got a lot of new ventures starting up on the football side.
“He has given me everything I wanted and has been tremendous.
“That is why we got out of a rut last season and why we started turning it around. At the end we were six games unbeaten and taking top teams to task.”
Buxton finished the aborted Bet Victor Northern Premier League season in a disappointing 18th spot.
But Hayward is determined to reward the dedication of his chairman with a promotion-winning season.
“If we got promoted it would be a dream come true because that is what the chairman wants,” he added.
“That is what I want and if we got promoted to the Conference North we would not stop there.
“We would try and get out of that league as well even though it would not be an easy task.That is what the chairman wants to do.
“If that is what he wants to do, and he will back me, then I will get the players in, because I know where they are.”
Plans are currently well underway for the new campaign with Hayward confident he can bolster his squad with a number of high quality signings.
“We have got good players lined up and are looking to drive things forward,” he said
“I am working really hard during the lockdown and am on the phone all the time.
“I have got players ringing me up wanting to come in from Conference North sides or really good step three sides.
“You put your name in for targets and there are another five or six clubs interested. At the minute, if I was a betting man, I think they will be Buxton players because of the current climate
“That is down to the chairman who is backing me.
“We want to be in the top three as a minimum. We want to hit the ground running and we are still planning to start at the end of June if allowed by the Government.”
Buxton will be reverting to a white home kit with blue trim next season and a yellow away kit to honour the club’s history, which saw them play in those colours when they were formed.
