East Grinstead Town receive Football Foundation funding

East Grinstead Town weren’t alone in having many of their home matches postponed due to a waterlogged pitch last season- but hopefully that problem will be consigned to history when the next campaign begins, after the Wasps confirmed that they had received a significant grant to improve drainage to their East Court pitch.

The project, as explained on the club website, ‘will see the existing pitch removed and a new primary drainage system installed to replace the existing one which was laid nearly 20 years ago. The upgrade will continue with the installation of secondary drainage in the form of excavated sand bands, a pop-up irrigation system including infield sprinklers, water storage tank, pump and controller.

The club have contacted the contractor who is waiting for an easing of the current restrictions so they can start work as soon as it is safe to do so under Government guidelines.’

The Football Foundation grant amounts to £80,219, and the rest of the costs- a further thirty five thousand pounds- will be covered by a grant from Mid Sussex District Council and donations.
