Goldberg takes a step back

Welling United have tonight released this Club Statement as Chairman Mark Goldberg leaves the day-to-day running of the Wings to others.

“We hope all our supporters are keeping safe and well. Hopefully, we should soon be in a position to update you when we can start welcoming back our supporters to Park View Road.

The last 6 months have been a challenging time for everyone, Welling United are not excluded from all of this, however we wanted to update you all on some really exciting developments that have been going on in the close season off the pitch, that will enable supporters to support Brad Quinton and his team on it.

On a day to day basis Mark Goldberg has handed over the day to day running of the club including the matchday responsibility to Garry Fiore, Paul Whitehead and Matt Mein, who will be ably supported by Robert Littlefield overseeing club finances. All of the team hold senior posts and run businesses and should bring an additional wealth of experience to help the club create additional commercial revenue. Mark will be remaining as owner and chairman but will now be focused on securing the new ground development at Park View Road with a view to providing a sustainable future for the club. Alan Heath will be responsible as Club Secretary.

Garry Fiore will also be in the Director of Football role and has already built a great close working relationship with Brad Quinton and will help support him around the playing squad and budget.

Already the new team have made huge inroads in the summer, building the football club back up from lockdown, when we welcome you back you will see lots of improvements that have taken place, new tarmac in front of the main stand, new dugouts and major tidy up, supported by our brilliant fans.

We welcome a new brewery, Molson Coors, who will supply our great new drinks ranges in our bars and expect to see a new outdoor bar area that will keep you dry even on rainy days, where fans can enjoy this facility, as well as the new drinks ordering app that will be coming out too.

Our new catering unit will be launched for the coming season this will give supporters a wider selection of hot food items on matchdays.

Next season we will make sure we offer a Covid secure ground that will have new additional turnstiles, ticketless and contact options on matchdays. The return of the executive lounge for supporters that want an enhanced matchday experience. As well as signage, direction and track and trace check in, to keep you safe and enjoy your visit.

The club has enhanced its infrastructure with Welling United academy now offering girls academy all the way through to the new Women’s first team. We also welcome Welling United Deaf team who have moved across from Charlton Athletic. We are really expanding our club into the community creating a wider reach.

WUSA have been proactive in the summer, not only agreeing to support Boost the Budget to the tune of nearly £5k for the season, but also launching the GoFundMe page which has staggeringly raised £7k so far from your kind donations

We would also like to thank volunteers that have helped tirelessly over the summer, Gary Leman, Nigel Jones and Danny Kibble keeping the pitch watered, along with our great supporters that have got the ground tidied to welcome you back. As well as “The Good Gym” who visited on a number of occasions to voluntarily tidy up the ground.

We are one big team this season and can’t wait to welcome you back!”
