Hines the latest to join Bromley FC

Bromley Football Club have confirmed the signing of winger Zavon Hines, following his departure from Chesterfield.

The forward, who is equally comfortable playing as a winger or striker, started out in the West Ham United academy, and went on to represent the Hammers 22 times in the Premier League, scoring a dramatic last minute winner against Aston Villa in November 2009. Hines was also called up to the England U21 side, scoring twice on his debut, in a 6-3 win over Macedonia.

After leaving the Hammers at the end of the 2010-11 season, Hines was snapped up by then Championship outfit Burnley. During his time with The Clarets, Hines had a short spell on loan at Bournemouth, before moving on to Bradford City, followed by stints at Dagenham & Redbridge and Southend United.

Hines was then picked up by National League rivals Maidstone United, and hit form for the Stones immediately, scoring eight times in his brief spell. His form attracted interest from Football League Clubs, and in January 2018, he was signed by League Two outfit Chesterfield.

Hines remained with the Spireites into the 2018-19 season, and scored against Bromley just last week, in a 1-1 draw at the Proact Stadium, standing out for his now former side throughout the game.

As reported on the Club’s official website, Manager Neil Smith was delighted to capture a player he has a lot of admiration for, and commented; “It’s been a very busy week on all fronts. It’s a fantastic bit of business for the Club and there’s been a lot of hard work behind the scenes to get these deals done. Zavon is a top quality player with the experience we need, and did very well playing against us last week.”
