John Still retires from Football Management

John Still has announced his retirement from football management after over 40 years of being in the hot seat.

During this time, John has won the National League title a record three times with Maidstone United, Luton Town and Dagenham & Redbridge, getting the latter further promoted to League One.

He was in his second spell managing Barnet having previously taken them to two League 2 play-off positions in three years during his first spell at the turn of the millennium.

John has overseen the reshaping of the technical football side of the whole Club during his second spell at Barnet and will remain with the club as Head of Football allowing him to continue his progressive work in this area. He will oversee Peter Gill, the Academy Manager; Luke Swindlehurst, the London Bees Head Coach and Darren Currie who will continue in his role as First Team Coach and take temporary charge of all first team affairs.

Over the next few months, John will continue his good work in re-shaping the football structure at Barnet FC and advance the Club’s scouting network and youth development programme.

John Still said “I have managed in over 2,000 matches and had a fantastic time in the game to date.

“I look forward to embracing my new role and supporting my young protégé Darren Currie in his growth as a Coach.”

Chairman Tony Kleanthous added “Recovering from relegation from the EFL was always going to be difficult and we needed an experienced head to guide us through the turbulent summer.

“John’s record in the National League is second to none and having steadied the ship, we are now in good shape to push forward in 2019.

“I look forward to continuing our working relationship as he develops the technical structure of the club.”
