Pennell inks Maidstone contract

Maidstone United have agreed a deal to sign England C international Luke Pennell.

The 23-year-old, who is capable of playing at both left back and centre half, will join the Stones on a one year deal from 1 July.

After spells as a schoolboy at MK Dons and Rushden & Diamonds, Pennell moved on to play local first team football at Banbury, Wolverton and Dunstable. It was at Dunstable that the 6’3″ player attracted the interest of John Still’s Dagenham & Redbridge, then in League Two.

Luke signed for the club in March 2016 and went on to make a total of 47 appearances for the Daggers, scoring one goal, with his form for the East London outfit earning him an England C call up in late 2018.

Stones Head of Football John Still said of the signing: “The signing of Luke is one I am glad to get done.

“He is a player with experience in the Football League, National League and with England C and is somebody I know well, having brought him to Dagenham three years ago.

“Our defence is really starting to take shape now with Luke joining Noah Chesmain, Lewis Knight, George Elokobi and Gavin Hoyte in the squad for the upcoming season.”
