SE Dons v Under The Radar

To mark the return of Grassroots Football this week the SE Dons took on Under The Radar in the ‘Comeback Cup’ and although supporters were not allowed along to watch, the game was live streamed for all to view.

The game took play at Dulwich Hamlet’s Champion Hill ground and was live streamed to a large watching audience, all who were keen to see how the two giants of YouTube Football would fare on day one of restrictions easing.

The match got off to a nervy and scrappy start, which Under the Radar edged, before SE Dons grew into the game being played on a deceptively bobbly pitch.

Nathan Palmer would shoot just wide on 20 minutes while shortly later K Runna just failed to get on the end of a fine cross from Ryan Palmer, who was beginning to excel on the right wing.

Montel tested the keeper from a free-kick and Zak Ansah probably should have done better but failed to connect from a Ryan Palmer set-piece.

Under The Radar chances were few and far between, with Eze restricted to a long range effort that went wide and the half closed out with another Montel free-kick that was comfortably saved.

The second half brought on multiple changes for each team and the introduction of Oz for the SE Dons who would dictate play and provide some much needed impetus to a game that understandably had a pre-season feel to it.

Another Dons substitute, Cow, provided the best chance of the match when he skipped down the left wing, layed it on a plate for King – who was dismayed to see the ball rebound away following a fine save from the Radar keeper. It was the to be the last bit of action for Cow, who sustained a shoulder injury after a heavy tackle when making the cross.

Montel’s set-pieces continued to cause problems, Joe Denny headed just over from one of them and the Radar defence through themselves in front of the ball to block another Montz effort that looked sure to go in.

With the 90 minutes coming to an end Nathan Palmer had a great chance to settle it but shot over when he really should have found the better placed King, meaning we had a stalemate.

– UTR – UTR were up first and No 5, Will scored.
– SE Dons – RJ, who had made an impressive debut at Centre-Back levelled.
– UTR – No 19, Tolu had his penalty excellently saved by Big G.
– SE Dons – Nathan Palmer also has his penalty well saved.
– UTR – George tries a cheeky panenka but it is slow and Big G, who was going the wrong way, was able to change plan and make a dramatic save.
– SE Dons – Montel scores, obviously.
– UTR – No 16, Vance, scores.
– SE Dons – Oz blasts home.
– UTR – It’s sudden death but No 18 scores.
– SE Dons – If he nets they win, Zak Ansah steps up…… and scores.

SE Dons celebrate winning the Comeback Cup and the ‘YouTube’ honours are theirs!

The game was able to take place with help from Puma Football and Pro: Direct Soccer, with funds raised going back into the grassroots game.
