Silkman takes over the reigns at Staines Town

Evo-Stick South Premier side Staines Town FC, have revealed Barry Silkman as their new Manager.

The club only announced yesterday that it had parted ways with previous manager Rob Easom.

Rob had recently taken over the reigns at Wheatsheaf Park, but the club has decided that a change was required to keep the team in the division.

66 year old Silkman; a professional midfielder in his day started his footballing career at Wimbledon in 1971 and played for Barnet, Hereford United, Crystal Palace, Plymouth Argyle prior to a marquee move.

In 1979, Barry signed for Manchester City, for which he played 19 games before a loan spell at Maccabi Tel Aviv midway through the 1979-80 season.

Silkman had short spells at West London sides QPR and Brentford prior to his move to Leyton Orient in 1981. He stayed at Orient until 1985, accruing 140 appearances and scoring 14 goals.

In the latter part of his playing career, Barry had spells at Southend United, Crewe Alexandra, Wycombe Wanderers and finishing off at Chelmsford City in 1987.

Following his playing career, Silkman became a football agent including overseeing the Premier League transfers of Mark Schwarzer, Yakubu, Geremi and Micah Richards.
