Sydenham Sports drop out of Kent County League
Sydenham Sports have made the decision to withdraw from the Kent County League, only three games into the 2020-21 season.
The club were sitting at the foot of the Division One West table with a point and confirmed their withdrawal today.
Sydenham Sports began their campaign with a goalless draw at home to Belvedere on day one of the season,before losing 3-0 at Club Langley and then suffering a heavy 6-0 home defeat to HFSP & Ten-Em-Bee in their last fixture on the 19th September.
Games against Chipstead and Bexley were both postponed and the Beckenham based outfit issued a statement on their Twitter account today to explain their situation.
“We have had to withdraw our Kent County League, I’m afraid,” said the 45-year-old club.
“We found losing nearly three quarters of the team and management from over the years too much to cope with.
“We tried and had numbers but the standard is too high to keep trying players and rebuild a new team and wasn’t becoming enjoyable.
“We would like to thank the League for letting us join and start our first venture into Saturday football and also for the way they run the whole structure.
“We enjoyed two promotions, superb battles with Welling Town and nearly reached the top division in our short stay with the League.
“Thanks to all the teams we have played and enjoyed battles with over the seasons, too many to mention sorry.
“Also sorry to the Division One West teams this season for withdrawing, it’s certainly a very tough decision.
“Thanks all and best of luck. As a club we continue with our Saturday vets team and our Sunday team in the Orpington & Bromley District Sunday League.”
The KCL have confirmed with regret Sydenham Sports have withdrawn from the league.
