Kent County League unlikely to play in January

Kent County League update statement – 31st December 2020

As we find ourselves ending what will go down in the history books as one of the most bizarre years in living memory, we can now just look forward and plan ahead to make the new year just as memorable but in a more positive way.

The league has not sugar coated anything and we do not intend to start now. At present there is no prospect of a restart in the very near future, but that does not mean we cannot plan and be ready to go when we get the go ahead to do so.
What we need you all to do is to get yourselves into a mindset to be ready for any possible restart. You may only get a seven to ten day notice of any restart once we get the ok to do so.

In realistic terms, January looks like a total washout now, even with a two week review. The committee continues to review its policy on restart and what we need to do if and when we can go ahead. Those plans can and will change fortnightly and we can still work on a conclusion even if we start as late as March.

Once we have a more definite view on a possible restart, we will call a meeting of the clubs. (We are not going to hold the proposed one for the 7th Jan now). It may be we will have to have separate meetings for the Premier division and the rest of the league.

It is still the committee’s commitment to find a way to complete a season and avoid both a null and void situation, as well as not having to use PPG. To do this will require commitment from the clubs to work with us to find a way we can safely do this and we are hopeful to be able to place different plans on the table as time progresses.

For now we want you all to stay safe and well and do what you need to do to keep fit and ready to go. We have not moved from our approach that no game is worth one life but if and when we can safely do so we will get you restarted and yes it may be well different to what we are used to but you have to be ready to be flexible.

We as a committee thank you all for your understanding and kind words that have reached us all. We continue to offer our support to you the members and ask you to continue to trust that we do have the best interests of the league as a whole in our firm grasp.

So long 2020, lets get on with 2021.

League Chairman and Acting Secretary
