South Park – The Final Statement
South Park make a final statement on the events of this week
South Park manager Mick Sullivan left the club earlier this week, and the club issued a statement which was later criticised by their- by now former- manager. The club have now issued a further- and final- statement to clarify some of the issues raised. We reproduce it in full below:
Further to our Press Release on Monday the club are disappointed to have to make a further statement to clarify some points.
After a period of significant stability and success over the past 15 years, it is unusual for the club to be in this position, 3 months into the season having won only one of the twelve competitive games played.
Having given their backing to Mick Sullivan last Thursday, following our FA Trophy defeat on Saturday Mick called one of the directors out of the boardroom at Berkhamstead- and advised him that as Saturday’s performance was not acceptable he would resign.
The Directors met on Sunday morning and agreed to accept Mick’s resignation with immediate effect. Joe McElligott called Mick on Sunday and advised him that his resignation had been accepted. Both parties agreed a joint statement would be issued and Mick forwarded his part of the statement by email.
On Monday evening after receiving the club’s statement prior to it being released Mick contacted the directors to try and withdraw his resignation. The Directors confirmed to Mick that his resignation had already been accepted and plans put in place for this week’s training and Saturday’s forthcoming fixture.
During several discussions over the past week face to face, over the phone and via email Mick has made it clear that if the club didn’t comply with his demands of us agreeing not to bring back several of the coaching staff that Mick had personally recruited, and subsequently sacked then he would be left with “no option other than to speak openly to the Press and offer the real reasons behind my decision to leave South Park FC.”
The club were not in a position to accept Mick’s demand as we placed no restrictions or had any involvement in who Mick recruited to his management team and the same would be the case for the new manager.
The club wish to draw a line under this matter and will therefore not be commenting further.
