Tonbridge Angels Appoint Alan Dunne as New Manager

Tonbridge Angels have confirmed the appointment of Alan Dunne as their new full-time manager, following the departure of Craig Nelson after just 11 games in charge.

Chair Sophie Purves hailed the move as a major coup for the Enterprise National League South club, describing Dunne as “the right person to take the club forward.”

The 43-year-old arrives with a strong reputation forged at Bromley, where he was part of the coaching staff that guided The Ravens into the Football League. Before that, Dunne was a Millwall stalwart, making nearly 400 appearances for the Lions and captaining the side during a career noted for its commitment and leadership. Spells at Leyton Orient and Bromley followed, before stepping into management under Neil Smith and Andy Woodman.

Speaking after his unveiling at Longmead Stadium, Purves said:
“His excellent work at Bromley has convinced us he has what it takes to be an outstanding manager. The board believes he is a great fit for Tonbridge Angels and we are very pleased to have him at the helm.”

Dunne left Bromley in February and now takes on his first game in charge this Saturday, an FA Cup Third Qualifying Round tie away to Isthmian Premier Division side Cray Valley PM.

The Angels are currently 15th in the National League South with 10 points from nine matches, but are unbeaten in their last four outings in league and cup. That run includes a 1-0 win at Worthing on Saturday, despite the uncertainty surrounding Nelson’s departure.

Looking ahead, Dublin-born Dunne said:
“I am extremely excited by the challenge I’ve been presented with at Tonbridge Angels. National League South is the most competitive it has ever been, but I will give everything to take this club forward. I’ve always relished a challenge and I can’t wait to get started.”
