Martin confirmed Rams Manager

Lee Martin has been confirmed as Ramsgate’s permanent manager, completing his rise from caretaker following Ben Smith’s departure two weeks ago. Smith stepped down after a heavy 5-0 defeat at Aveley, with the Rams hovering just above the drop zone.

Since taking charge, Martin has steadied the ship and sparked a rapid climb up the table. Ramsgate now sit 12th — nine points clear of danger and only five away from the play-offs. His stint began with a 1-1 draw against Cheshunt, before impressive back-to-back wins over title challengers Chatham (1-0) and Hashtag United (4-1).

Martin, who helped Ramsgate win the Isthmian South East title as a player last season, briefly left to manage Welling United. After being dismissed there after 13 games, he returned to Southwood as player-coach and was handed the interim role on Smith’s recommendation.

In their announcement, the club said:
“Ramsgate FC are delighted to confirm that Lee Martin has been appointed as manager on a permanent basis following a successful interim period.

“With seven points from nine, Marts has led the side with great diligence — supported by Sean Hill and Tom Hadler, who will continue in their coaching roles.

“Lee has always felt part of the Ramsgate family, and we’re thrilled that the Martin family will continue their journey at Southwood. An exciting new chapter is under way, and we look forward to building on recent success.”

Speaking before the appointment was confirmed, Martin highlighted the collective effort behind the turnaround and reserved most of the praise for his players.

“We’ve worked unbelievably hard — myself, Sean with the analytical work, and Tom as well. We’ve thrown ourselves into it,” he said.

“But ultimately the players have to go out and perform, and they have. They’ve been outstanding — full of desire, discipline, and a willingness to learn. They could easily have folded, but instead they’ve been fantastic for us.”
