Woking appoint Alan Dowson as new manager
Fresh from the disappointment of losing a play-off Final with Hampton & Richmond, Alan Dowson has now been announced as Manager of Woking FC.
Woking, just relegated to the National League South, have turned to a man experienced in this Division to try and get themselves back to the big league as quick as possible.
Alan’s managing career began in October 2004 as player-manager at Walton & Hersham, having spent the previous eight years there playing as a defender. In his first season as player-manager Walton & Hersham finished as runners-up, gaining promotion to the Isthmian Premier Division. At the end of the 2005/06 season he retired from the playing side to concentrate solely on managing.
The Gateshead-born manager left the Swans in January 2007 to join Kingstonian, where in his second full season as manager the K’s won the Isthmian Division One South. They finished fifth the following season in the Isthmian Premier Division, but missed out on back-to-back promotions, losing to Boreham Wood in the play-off final.
Alan joined Hampton & Richmond Borough as manager in September 2014, and in his second season the Beavers won the Isthmian Premier Division and promotion to the National League South. Alan guided the team to 7th position in their first season, which was enough to enter the play-offs due to two teams above them failing to achieve the correct ground grading, losing to Ebbsfleet United 4-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals.
Hampton and Richmond announced that they reluctantly accepted the resignation of Alan Dowson but thank him for his four years in charge.
Martin Tyler will join as a coach Woking aswell.
