Billericay sign Welling forward Coombes
Billericay have today confirmed the signing of Welling United striker Adam Coombes
Welling re-signed striker Adam Coombes from Vanarama National League Sutton United earlier this year in a permanent deal that was meant to keep the prolific hitman at Park View Road until May 2020.
But following Billericay’s approach the player was informed and indicated he’d like to discuss the move with Billericay so it was in the club’s best interests for a deal to be agreed for an undisclosed fee.
27 year old Coombes hit the headlines in the 2016-17 season when scoring 31 goals for Welling including four hat-tricks and deservedly earned his move in to the Division above.
Injury meant he struggled to settle at Sutton United and after a short successful spell with Hampton and Richmond on loan he returned to The Wings.
Earlier in his career Coombes had spells at Bromley and Notts County after being introduced to the game through the Chelseas academy.
At this stage it is not known if there were any fees involved in the switch that will see Coombes rejoin his former coach Harry Wheeler at Billericay. Speaking about the move Wheeler said, ”Adam is a great signing for us. Having worked with him previously I know his character and the quality he will bring. He’s a natural goal scorer and will add to group in a very positive way” .
Billericay play Welling at Park View Road in the second week of the Season in what is sure to be an interesting encounter.
Billericay will start the next Season as favourites for the title in the National League South, to visit their website click here
