Kevin Watson Departs Sheppey United

Sheppey United have confirmed that they have parted company with First Team Manager Kevin Watson and his assistant Tommy Osborne, bringing their time at the club to an end.

In a brief statement released on Tuesday evening, the Ites thanked both men for their contribution and professionalism during their spell at Holm Park.

“We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Kevin and Tommy for their hard work, professionalism, and commitment during their time at the club. We wish them every success in their future careers.”

The club have also confirmed their interim arrangements for the remainder of the campaign. Ian and George Batten will take charge of first-team matters until the end of the season, allowing the club time to assess its longer-term approach ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. During this period, Shaun Monahan and Ross Wiles will jointly oversee management duties at Sheppey Sports.

Following the announcement, Watson released an extensive personal statement, paying tribute to the club, its supporters, and the wider Sheppey United community.

“The club as a whole is a great football club and the fan base are the best I have experienced in non league management. Your backing home and away has been unwavering and genuinely appreciated.”

Watson also highlighted the efforts of those working behind the scenes, stressing their importance to the club’s day-to-day success.

“There are so many people whose efforts often go unseen but never unnoticed.”

He went on to individually thank a number of staff and supporters, describing Lee Allen as “the best asset a football club could have” and praising the dedication and commitment shown throughout the club at all levels.

Addressing the circumstances of his departure, Watson acknowledged recent results while disputing other aspects of the decision.

“I received a call last night to break the news and give the reasons behind the decision. Frustratingly, there was only one point raised that I agreed with, and that was that results over the last seven matches have not been good enough.”

Despite his disappointment, Watson was keen to stress that he leaves without resentment, placing the decision into wider perspective.

“I leave with a clear conscience and no bitterness towards the club as a whole… In perspective, there are far bigger things in life than football.”

He signed off by wishing the club, its supporters, and staff well for the future.

“I wish you all well and wish you great health.”

Sheppey United will now look ahead to the remainder of the season under interim management, with further decisions expected in due course.
