Parkinson will not assist King at Welling United
Player-coach Jack Parkinson has today left his role at Park View Road.
Fans’ favourite Parkinson came back to the club in 2017 as part of Jamie Coyle’s management team after playing spells with Dover Athletic, Woking and Maidenhead United and helped Coyle guide The Wings to a top 10 finish in the Vanarama National South in 2017/8.
Parkinson made over 30 appearances over the past year for The Wings and scored four goals, with his most recent coming in a 2-0 victory at Concord Rangers back in February.
On Parkinson’s departure, manager Steve King said “Unfortunately I couldn’t offer Jack the coaching role he wanted as I will be bringing my own team in. I would have loved to kept Jack at the club in a playing capacity as he is a top player, but we completely understand his decision and wish him well for the future and thank him for all he has done for Welling”
Parkinson is the Head Coach at the highly successful Phoenix Sports Academy who have joined with Erith School to produce an excellent environment for young people in the area to enter the game. Once he returns from their Portugal Tour next week he may then need to decide on where his own playing career goes next.
